MOMO YOUTUBE/WHATS APP CHALLENGE

We have become aware of a very worrying new social media trend that has spread very quickly across the UK in the past 72hrs. It has been known across the world for a while now but has firmly hit the UK. It is being reported that children are seeing this very creepy character pop up on Youtube clips, both on normal Youtube and YouTube kids. It’s appearing on all sorts of videos. The creepy character pops up and threatens kids that if they tell their parents about it, the creature will kill their parents while they are at work. It then asks the children to do simple dares at first. This has then been reported to get worse and goes as far as asking the children to self-harm and kill themselves.

In addition to this, it seems the MOMO has another use. It asks people to add a number to Whatsapp. This then helps the hackers behind the scam to steal your personal information. Police forces up and down the UK are now sending out messages about it. Please be aware of the trend and also speak to your children about it. We will also be speaking to the pupils in PDM sessions. Below is a link to our full letter regarding this issue, with links to several helpful sites.
