Over a two week period we have had lecturers and students from Elmhurst Ballet School working with our year 10 BTEC dancers and dance club. In the workshops students learnt elements from Swan Lake, ballet exercises and watched the students perform some of their ballet works. Students really enjoyed the experience and we are looking forward to working with Elmhurst again very soon!
Students took part in Sandwell’s ‘Shape your Talent’ competition at the Coneygre Arts Centre. The students auditioned a piece they created themselves and received some fantastic feedback from the judges! Well done girls!
During the last week of the summer term, 26 students across year 7-10, had the most amazing time performing in Disneyland Paris. The students had been rehearsing all year in preparation for their “BIG” performance moment, where they recited their dance show live on stage in the centre of Disneyland Park, performing to an audience of many nationalities and representing our school. The students performed outstandingly well and their hard work certainly paid off! While in Disney the students also took part in a backstage workshop were we got a sneak peak of all the backstage action and how the Disney magic is made! This workshop was led by one of the performers who work in Disney and the students worked so professionally within this session! Well done to all the students who were apart of this fantastic opportunity you represented yourself and the school impeccably and we are very proud of you all!
Our year 10 BTEC dance students visited Birmingham hippodrome on Friday 18th October to watch Zoo Nation’s “Some Like It Hip Hop”. The students thoroughly enjoyed this performance and the atmosphere and energy from the performance and the audience was incredible! The students are now recreating the movements they watched during the performance as part of their BTEC qualification and the quality of their work is just immense! Well done and keep up the good work!
On the 25th February we had our KS3 & KS4 entries compete in the regional finals at the Alexandra Theatre. Both groups did a fantastic performance and should be proud of their efforts! Our KS3 entry placed 3rd in this final and are now through the National finals in June! Huge well done Mollie Deakin & Mia McLauchlan, this is their second year running making it through to Nationals, representing Perryfields and the West Midlands.
Our year 10 BTEC dancers had another exciting opportunity which involved a two day workshop at Perryfields working alongside Autin Dance Company, learning all about their company and their current work “A positive life”. We also went to watch the performance of this project which was a very interesting experience as it was an interactive performance as opposed to the traditional theatre setting.
On Thursday 14th February we took our year 10 students to the hippodrome to watch Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake. The students are studying this performance as part of their Dance BTEC so found it extremely useful and enjoyable to watch the performance live and make their own interpretations of the piece.
Annually, our dance students get to work with Flexus Dance Company in workshops focussing on techniques and choreography. Students learn a ‘Curtain raiser’ choreography to perform at the Flexus Dance Company showcase events. Some of our students have also successfully auditioned to be part of the Flexus Touring Company.
On the 7th February we held our annual dance show at Stourbridge Town hall with over 150 students taking part! This was a fantastic evening and the level of talent from our students was incredible. A massive well done to all the students who took part in this evening- all your hard work and rehearsals paid off! Congratulations and farewell to the Year 11 students as this was their last dance show at Perryfields High! Well done, I am very proud of you all!
Musical Theatre students Perryfields students enjoyed a couple of days in London! The trip included: visiting key historical sites such as Buckingham Palace, the Royal Albert Hall and the Houses of Parliament; free time to explore Covent Garden where they were able to watch local performance artists, sample food and buy lots of little souvenirs! We then went to the Cambridge Theatre to watch the West End performance of the critically acclaimed musical Matilda! Which was incredible and enjoyed by all! Day two included: group breakfast, visit to the Science museum, picnic on the grounds of the Natural History Museum and the final stop, the anticipated Harry Potter Studio Tour. Here the students enjoyed; wand lessons, drinking butterbeer and marvelling at the incredible new Gringott’s Bank exhibit. It was a fantastic few days.
